Our History Lives On

BlaqLGBT History was created to spotlight the stories of Black LGBTQIA+ individuals who have shaped Washington, DC: from the civil rights movement to the dance floors of the ClubHouse. Through oral histories, visual storytelling, and digital archiving, we aim to center joy, resilience, and remembrance in one collective space.

Our work preserves the legacy of those too often left out of the mainstream record; artists, organizers, elders, and everyday people who built culture, community, and resistance in the nation’s capital. This platform is both an archive and a celebration, a place where memory meets movement, and history lives on through the voices of those who lived it.

By gathering community narratives, uplifting sacred spaces, and curating a dynamic record of the past and present, BlaqLGBT History ensures that the contributions of Black LGBTQIA+ people are honored, protected, and passed forward to future generations.
